I will be the first to admit that I have not paid attention today.
Since the moment I woke up, let the dogs out and fed them, fed the cats and cleaned out their litter boxes, and wrote in my journal a little, my mind has been two steps ahead and not in the present.
In a way, I was telling myself I was too busy to observe. Busy-ness is a terrible trap.
Poet Mary Oliver writes:
“Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”
This is great advice for any writer. I did lousy at it today. No excuses.
Tomorrow I will begin again.
