Day #17: Ode to a leopard slug

Leopard slug (Limax maximus) can grow up to 8 inches. This one is in northern Virginia, in my daughter’s backyard.

Gentle leopard slug

A surprising morning sight

On a wooden path

Nature’s composter

Hunting slugs, snails and snail eggs,

Sometimes the hunted

Sliding in mucous

It’s not glamorous transport,

But those wildcat spots!

  1. One thing I do NOT miss from my youth growing up in Maryland. Slugs. Ugh. Sorry. Maybe you are attracted to them, being an earth sign? I had a Virgo friend who had a mystical experience with slugs mating!
